Before joining R Hewen & Co LLC, James worked at one of the world’s largest and most globally diverse law firms, where he gained broad international experience across multiple technology sectors. His practice includes patent preparation and prosecution, trade dress and trade secret matters, and agreements for technology development, licensing, and transfer. He has advised on intellectual property strategies across optical, software, electrical, mechanical, and telecommunications fields, including 3G, 4G, and LTE networks, semiconductor manufacturing, digital display technologies, and Software as a Service (SaaS).

James also provides litigation support, including non-infringement and invalidity opinions, freedom-to-operate assessments, and strategic patent counseling. He has represented clients before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) in post-grant proceedings, re-examinations, and inter partes reviews.

A registered patent attorney with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, James is also a member of the State Bar of Texas and the Dallas Bar Association. He is admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas. He earned his J.D. from Baylor University School of Law and holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of North Texas. His technical background includes additional degrees in robotics, fluid power systems, industrial engineering, and computer-integrated manufacturing, giving him a unique ability to support clients across a wide range of technological fields.
